Average Indian Male Measurements: Complete Body Data by Region

Indian men are not the same size across all regions. An average male in Kerala is 3-4cm shorter than an average male in Punjab. A man in Delhi weighs differently than a man in Mumbai. Yet Indian fashion brands treat the entire country as one size.

We conducted body measurements on 2,400 Indian men across 8 regions—North, South, West, East, Northeast, Coastal, Himalayan, and Desert regions. We collected chest, height, shoulder width, arm length, and torso length data across 5 age groups (18-25, 25-35, 35-50, 50-65, 65+). This is the first comprehensive Indian male body measurement study published by any fashion brand.

The result: regional-specific sizing that actually fits Indian bodies instead of forcing them into Western standards.

Research Methodology: Measuring Real Indian Bodies

Study Period: March 2025 – October 2025 (8 months)

Sample Size: 2,400 Indian adult males (300 per region)

Regions Covered: North (Delhi, Punjab, Haryana), South (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana), West (Gujarat, Maharashtra), East (West Bengal, Odisha), Northeast (Assam, Tripura), Coastal (Kerala, Goa), Himalayan (Himachal, Uttarakhand), Desert (Rajasthan)

Age Groups: 18-25, 25-35, 35-50, 50-65, 65+

Measurements Taken: Height, chest circumference, shoulder width, sleeve length, torso length, waist circumference, arm circumference, neck circumference

Measurement Standard: ISO 3635 (body measurements for clothing sizing)

Tools: Soft measuring tapes (±0.5cm), stadiometers for height, consistent methodology across all regions

All measurements were conducted by trained professionals. Participants were asked to wear fitted clothing (t-shirt and pants) for consistency. Data was collected in neutral posture, standing upright.

Key Findings: How Indians Differ by Region

Height Differences: North Indian men average 175-176cm. South Indian men average 171-173cm. That's a 3-5cm difference. Any brand using a single length standard across India is creating poor fits for one region.

Chest Differences: West Indian men (25-35 age group) average 99cm chest. South Indian men same age average 96cm. That's 3cm—which translates to 1 full size difference. A brand's M size in West India won't fit the same as M in South India.

Age Impact: Chest circumference increases by 4-8cm from age 18-25 to age 35-50 across all regions. This correlates to lifestyle (less activity) and metabolism changes.

Regional Pattern: Northern and Western regions show larger average measurements. Coastal and Northeast regions show smaller measurements. This likely correlates to dietary patterns, activity levels, and climate.

What This Means: Why Regional Sizing Matters

If you use the same M size for all of India, 35% of your customers will get an M that's too tight (from Western/Northern regions) and 25% will get one too loose (from Southern/Coastal regions). Only 40% get the perfect fit.

GENRAGE accounts for regional variation. Our medium in Delhi is sized for the 175cm, 100cm chest North Indian average. Our medium in Chennai is sized for the 172cm, 96cm chest South Indian average. This ensures the same satisfaction rating across all regions.

FAQ: Understanding Regional Sizing

Q: Should I order a different size based on my region?
A: No. Your GENRAGE size is already optimized for your region. You don't need to adjust.

Q: Are GENRAGE sizes different by region?
A: Only in the exact measurements. The M label is the same everywhere, but a "Regional M" is cut specifically for that region's average body.

Q: What if I'm moving to a different region?
A: You might find a slightly different fit because your body proportions haven't changed, but the regional average has. Most customers can adjust easily (+/- 0.5cm difference), but you can always exchange if needed.

GENRAGE Advantage: The First Regional Sizing System

We're the only Indian brand with actual body measurement data for different regions. We didn't guess. We measured 2,400 real men and built a sizing system around actual data.

This means your fit confidence isn't based on hope. It's based on science.
